 Nancy
and Dick
celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary March 14th.
Annie’s birth in 1987 prompted our first “Christmas”
newsletter and her wedding this July brings this second — where
did the time go? We
home-schooled Annie, Nathanael, and Jeannie Beth until high
school, when all three attended Bellevue Christian School (BCS).
Now Jeannie Beth has graduated
and is following her mom, sister,
and brother to Seattle Pacific University (SPU).
We’ve never had a dull moment with church; reading;
Shakespeare and musical theatre camps with Taproot Theatre;
the Pacific Science Center, zoo, and other places; skiing with
Susan and Ginger; and videoing and photographing our three
children in sports and drama.
Both of Dick’s
parents passed away this spring: Jean, age 90, (who lived mostly
under our care since December, 2007) in March and Richard, age
92, in April. Life has
been especially hectic.
Dick
is Manager of Information
Systems / Instructor in the business school at Seattle
Pacific University.
In
“free” time, Dick leads a weekly men’s Bible study at First
Presbyterian Church of Bellevue and volunteers as sports
photographer for Cross Country (XC), Track, and Wrestling teams
at BCS and SPU. This
spring, the BCS
girls’ Track and Field team won the State Championship for the 3rd
consecutive year and Dick’s photos were again in the local
newspaper which sponsors him.
His sports photos are online at
www.Bellevue1.net.
Nancy continues
videoing sports and drama, helping BCS senior ladies apply for
the new P.E.O. STAR Scholarship for college, and supporting
University Presbyterian Church’s summer Day Camp for preschool
and elementary students, a family tradition for 21 years.
She just “graduated” from ten years in the Bellevue
Christian School “Moms In Touch” prayer group, which met weekly
to pray for BCS student and staff families.

Dick and Nancy
felt honored to be named Bellevue Christian Parents of the Year
this June.

Nancy’s mother, Ginger Rutherford, is still living with
Susan in Redmond, since Bob passed away in 1990.
Sue is
again working a lot with Evergreen Hospital as Medical Director
of Women’s and Children’s Services, which keeps her at home
more.
Ginger
and Susan had spent lots of time visiting and caring for
Ginger’s sister Eleanor Uhthoff Manning (Ellie) who passed away
in November of 2009 at 100 ½.
At that
time, we gave Ginger a kitty, Pearl, to keep her company when
Susan traveled.
Pearl is sweet, but a handful, and gives Ginger lots of stories
to tell!
As well
as matriarch, Ginger continues to serve as hostess par
excellence for family and P.E.O. gatherings and Susan’s numerous
visitors and professional and volunteer meetings.
Susan
and Ginger are great supporters of Dick and Nancy and kids.
Jean
just graduated from Bellevue Christian School and will attend
SPU this fall.
For eight summers, she has
acted in Taproot Theatre’s student acting
program. Last August, she played Beatrice in
Shakespeare’s Much Ado
about Nothing.
In April, she led two BCS
teams to a 1st and a 2nd place at the
State Mathematics Championships. (She was also on a winning team
in 2009.)
She received many honors and
awards at graduation time, including the
Director’s Award in
Choir.
She ran on the varsity Cross
Country team for four years, including three trips to the state
championships.
Her interests span theatre,
music, mathematics, literature, video production and much more.
She enjoys her Facebook friends.

Nathanael
just finished his junior year at SPU.
He is a double-major in Physics and Chemistry, and hopes
to become a teacher.
He has competed in Cross
Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field now for
nine seasons. He has
qualified for the conference championships each season, and he
finished 2nd on his XC
team the past two years.
He’s also been named Academic All-Conference
all three years. He
specializes in the 800m and 1500m distances in Track.
Nate has developed an
interest in English Country Dancing.
He has a part-time job
working in the business school computer lab for his dad.
He plans to make the most of
the tuition discount available to him because his dad is an SPU
employee and graduate after a 5th year of study, just
like his sister Annie did.

Annie
graduated from Seattle Pacific University in June 2010.
She graduated Summa
Cum Laude with a 3.996 GPA, a major in English (creative
writing), a minor in
Spanish, and a high school language arts teaching certificate.
Her
high scholarship was not surprising, as she was also a high
school Valedictorian and a National Merit Scholar.
During college, she studied abroad in Ireland, Scotland,
England, Spain, Portugal, and South Africa.

After graduation she accepted the not-unexpected marriage
proposal of fellow English major Thomas Disher of Dallas,
Oregon, and they are busy preparing for their July 16th
wedding (1 o’clock at University Presbyterian).
This past year she has been tutoring Korean students at the
nearby Bellevue Learning Center in the evenings and substitute
teaching at her alma mater, Bellevue Christian.
She even got to finish the year as a “long term
substitute” for junior high social studies.

She
intends to continue seeking a full-time teaching position,
either at home or abroad.
