I was born in Montana, but have
lived in Seattle, Washington most of my life. Early exposure to the wonderful variety of
nature in the Pacific Northwest has definitely had an influence on my
painting. I have
enjoyed drawing and other artistic pursuits since I was a small child. Drawing classes in
high school and college gave me a good foundation. I started painting in 1974 when I took
a class at a local recreation center. After that I attended painting classes at an art
store and then took workshops from many different Northwest artists. I have developed my
technique in flowers primarily on my own.
As you can see, my style is realistic and detailed. I strive to capture the magic of light
and shadow. I enjoy painting a variety of subjects from mountains, seascapes, waterfalls
and floral to an occasional still life or portrait. The inspiration for my painting comes
from skiing, hiking and traveling locally and abroad. I work largely from photos that my
husband and I take; though I may use only a portion of a photo or combine many photos into
one painting. My medium is oil on a nylon canvas. This smooth canvas allows me to paint
the fine details that I love and also results in brighter, more luminous colors. A side
benefit is the clarity of the prints made from the original paintings.
I teach workshops at various studios and stores around the Pacific Northwest, and have
written three instructional books for Scheewe
Publishing. I also have several greeting cards published by Leanin` Tree. I sell my
paintings, and prints of them,
mostly through mall shows in Washington State and occasionally in galleries. My work is included in collections
throughout the United States as well as in England, Australia and New Zealand.
I dedicate my artwork to the Lord who gave me the talent and has blessed me by allowing me
to make a living doing something I love. I strive to thank Him by portraying the beauty
and magnificence of His Creation.
